Winter competition set for an even stronger 2025 season
Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe is an excellent preparation for various international Porsche competitions
Zonhoven, August 1, 2024. Registrations for the third edition of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe open on August 1st. The competition begins with an official test session on December 2nd and 3rd in Estoril. The event has proven its worth as the perfect preparation for various Porsche one-make series, including the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Featuring four race weekends and a two-day official test session, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe serves as the ideal bridge between the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe is entering its third season. Following two successful editions in the winters of 2023 and 2024, the series will continue in Southern Europe in 2025. The calendar includes four races across Southern Europe, starting on January 18-19 in Portimao and concluding on February 28 and March 1 in Barcelona. The teams will also head to Estoril (February 7-8) and Valencia (February 21-22). Additionally, there is an important new feature: an official test session on December 2-3 in Estoril.
"There are many reasons to participate," says Series Manager Lars Plato. "First and foremost, it is a professionally organized event that is part of the Porsche pyramid. The timing of the competition bridges the gap between the 'old' and 'new' seasons, allowing drivers to continue racing during the winter months. The competition itself is intense, with numerous participants and close racing, providing an excellent preparation for the new season in various Porsche series, especially for young drivers and newcomers. Moreover, we offer more than nine hours of track time per weekend, often in pleasant weather conditions, while Northern and Western Europe experience harsh winter weather."
Winter Wins Lead to Summer Success
Statistics show that racing in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe during the winter can be highly productive. "Looking back at our 2023 season, we found that more than one-third of the drivers on the starting grid later finished in the top three of their respective championships," continues Series Manager Lars Plato. "For example, Robert de Haan, a young Dutch driver, debuted in the winter series and then won the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux championship. He even secured a podium finish in his debut in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as a guest driver. Similar numbers are evident for the ongoing 2024 season."
"In the first half of this year's championship, 50% of the drivers from the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe have already achieved a podium finish. So far, these drivers have accumulated 111 trophies: 37 first places, 39 second places, and 35 third places. The standings in various championships are also looking very promising."
Regarding the sporting and logistical approach, the promoter focuses on continuity but also makes adjustments where necessary based on constant evaluation. The Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe will be broadcast live through various media channels, offering enhanced sponsorship returns and activation opportunities, including strong hospitality options, on-board cameras, and track banners.
